My husband Rodney and I started this journey at the beginning of this year. We are building a Rome in the Fairwood Community. I want to detail our journey as well as hear from everyone about their journey. Plus we can all use each other as a resource. When we sign our life away they promise us the world so we will see.

Double Ovens
Ou SR told us there was no way to have double ovens in a Rome. I just read a blog where someone has them. I'm a little agitated. Does anyone in Fairwood have a Rome with a double oven?
It could be done, but it's a pain. I saw a blog from another area where they did it, but I didn't like how it looked. You would have to have an architect modify the Rome base plan, but like I said, the one I saw didn't look all that good where it was placed.
You can put the cabinet on the blank wall (the powder room wall) to get a double oven (see Home Sweet Rome for an example...I think RickandNadase are doing it, too, but they haven't broken ground yet). Or you can do what we're doing, which is getting the standard range but also a single oven placed in the island. Doesn't change the footprint, though you lose some cabinet space of course. I need to do a post about that, still...
We haven't broken ground yet, so I'm not sure what that looks like in real life, but essentially the cabinet closest to the range gets swapped out for a single oven cabinet, with the door opening towards the sink.
Hi Sharon, I believe since you have broken ground it's not an option at this point. Sheldon is right--it requires some reconstruction that RH does not want to do since they are not custom builders. You may be able to order the cabinets and double ovens from home ddepots hitch they do carry and have them install it for you after closing.

ReplyDeleteThanks Sheldon. Have you all moved in yet? ~ Sharon
ReplyDeleteAmanda what does it look like under a cabinet and how much did that cost? We already broke ground so...... ~ Sharon

ReplyDeleteYou can order the double ovens and cabinets from home depot or lowes because they carry the products and have them installed after closing.
